iPhone finally going USB-C is huge. Tonight, I’m giving a presentation at an event, and am not allowed to bring a laptop into the venue. I’ve packed a little USB-C to HDMI adapter, and will present directly from my phone on the TV in the suite. 🥳

@jonathan I was doubting they’d ever do it. The obvious time for them to make the switch was like seven years ago when their laptops started using it

@keithjgrant Yeah, overdue for sure, but not unsurprising I think. The overwhelming majority of people don’t care, and were fine with Lightning. When Apple announced Lightning, they said it was the port they’d use for “the next decade,” and that’s been accurate. Seven years ago probably would have created too much friction for the average user. Now that most things charge via USB-C, its a no-brainer. They probably could have done it 2-3 years ago, though, with minor blowback.

@jonathan I guess I can see that. As someone who's not neck deep in the Apple ecosystem, and has been using almost exclusively USB-C devices for the better part of a decade, tracking down lighting cords has been the friction point for me

@keithjgrant Well, I am knee-deep in the ecosystem, but I am also a power-user, and would have personally preferred USB-C years ago. For reference, my wife is super irritated about having to get new charging cables. Massive user bases are challenging!
